Road Trip

Well, it is Winter Break for the kids from school so Melissa and I decided on a Road Trip. We headed to Gatlinburg, TN, nestled in the Smoky Mountains, for 2 nights in a quaint mountain side cabin. After a quick "pit stop" on the side of the very windy road through the Smokys we made it. Cabin was great, walking distance to Ober Gatliburg ski resort, hot tub on the deck, tvs, etc.

After unpacking the cars we walked over to the ski resort to check out all of the things to do. They have an indoor skating rink so we thought why not. Alex has never been ice skating before and I had no idea what to expect. Well, he loved it. After a couple of times going around holding on he realized he could let go and skate. He said it was so much fun. Everyone did a great job. We then went back to the cabin to relax and have dinner. We tried to go tubing after dinner, but it was too slick and closed down so instead we got some ice cream and headed back to the cabin for the night.

The kids played foose ball and watched tv and Melissa and I were watching The Bachelor. Half way through I spotted something over by the fireplace kind of scurry off the hearth and under the tv stand. I was hoping it was anything except for what it really was. It then scurried again behind the tv and across the room. That was it for me. I was up in my room, door shut and towel across bottom of the door. I hate mice, and if it came out once, it was coming out again. Sure enough it did and Melissa trapped it over by the fireplace and she never saw it come back out. I didn't get a very good sleep that night thinking it was going to be scurring around my head at some point, but that never happened. The good news - we never saw Stuart Little again.

The next day we woke up & headed out for a day of snow tubing and skiing. I did not know how the skiing was going to go with 4 kids and 2 adults, but we were willing to give it a try and it turned out great. We skied from 1-7:30pm. Everyone had a blast, of course with tons of falling, wipe outs and skis falling off. We all did the chair lift and must have done atleast 30 runs. It was fun and I was exhausted by the end of the day. The weather was also warm so we weren't freezing.

All in all it was a fun get away and we are all looking to more skiing in the near future!
